چکیده
Objective: The current study aimed to characterize the variation of serum PCT and IL-6 levels and look the specificity and the sensitivity in diagnosing pneumonia, urinary and superficial surgical site infections during the perioperative period of primary hip and knee arthroplasty. Methods: This observational study included 73 patients undergoing primary hip and knee arthroplasty. Serum Procalcitonin (PCT), and Interleukin-6 (IL-6) were measured preoperatively (D0) and at postoperative day 4 (D4) and day 6 (D6). The sensitivity, specificity and predictive values of PCT and

Early Serum Procalcitonin Level after Primary Total Hip Replacement
BACKGROUND Procalcitonin (PCT) is a useful surrogate marker for the differentiation of postoperative infection and unspecific inflammatory reaction after surgery. It is known that postoperative course of the PCT serum level varies with type of surgery. No data exists about the postoperative course of serum PCT levels after primary total hip replacement (THR). PURPOSE To characterize early pos...

Objective: To examine the change in Procalcitonin (PCT) during the perioperative period of primary total hip replacement and to investigate the diagnostic value of PCT for prosthetic joint infection. Methods: Serum C-reactive protein (CRP) and Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) were measured and analysed in 36 patients with primary hip replacement both before the surgery and 1, 4, and 10 d af...
متن کاملThe Pattern of Procalcitonin in Primary Total Hip and Knee Arthroplasty and its Implication in Periprosthetic Infection
BACKGROUND The serum marker Procalcitonin (PCT) has been shown to be a sensitive indicator of bacterial infection, but very little is known of its behavior in periprosthetic infection. In this study, PCT was compared with standard tests used to aid the diagnosis of infection. As a baseline, its pattern in uncomplicated hip and knee arthroplasty was investigated. METHODS A prospective study of...
متن کاملThe Efficacy of Intravenous Versus Topical Use of Tranexamic Acid in Reducing Blood Loss after Primary Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Background: Blood loss during and immediately after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is among the most challenging concerns. It has been demonstrated that Tranexamic acid (TXA) can help to reduce perioperative blood loss. TXA can be used as an oral, topical or intravenous injection. Many studies evaluated the effectiveness of each route of administration but few works on a comparison between them....
